Presidential Candidates & Science
As a scientist and a bit of a political junkie, I am interested in the opinions and actions of politicians regarding science. I present here a few sources that I have found useful in researching the opinions and records of the candidates on science.
- Physics Today, the publication of the American Institute of Physics, has a blog dedicated to the election, including answers to six important science questions for the candidates.
- Science has excellent profiles on several candidates, including the presumptive nominees for the major parties. However, the full content is only available with a subscription. Those of you on University campuses should check if your library provides access. Ohio State does.
- An article in Reason magazine summarizes the views of the candidates on biological evolution while arguing, from an apparently libertarian perspective, that "we should care what candidates think about biological evolution."
- The blog from Live Science asked the leading candidates questions about scientific hot button issues and relayed their responses, if any.
- Science Debate 2008
